create energy together

Posted on: March 28th, 2011 by alyssa miserendino No Comments

it's about that time, & i'm looking to hire a creative, yet very organized part-time studio assistant. finding a connection is key — i thrive on creating, and i'm at a point where a momentum of incredible opportunities have fallen into my lap (including teaching & consulting on interiors). i am looking to share, grow, teach & learn … perhaps you are too?

i am primarily seeking someone who is interested in doing quite a bit of post processing, data entry, research, & assisting on shoots. my work focuses on children's portraits & creative ventures in documenting life. i take on only a handful of very special artful wedding commissions a year. experience & references are a must.

please send a PDF cover letter, resume & 6-8 jpgs of your own work to : studio@alyssamiserendino.com

if i find your submission & thus yourself of interest, i will reach out for a one-on-one interview.

let's create energy together.

i've had a pretty blessed year. perhaps it's because i've gotten married to my best friend for the second time, in an industry i never really believed in, which had driven me away from photographing weddings after almost 10 years. yet, i have created some of the most identity driven self portraits of myself through client's love (t h a n k  y o u to the below) – both in love of a partner or child  … or in my personal work. but i get it now. or perhaps i just enjoy knowing myself through this lens. its like a secret i'm not sure how to tell  - but through loving myself more & more, i love my imagery more. and even when i dont know what i'm doing, even better:) i turn 30 in a couple of days & i couldn't be happier. in the most ironic of places, the work i've run so far from in order to do a better job, makes me smile again – who knows, perhaps i'll get to teach a class about it soon (live out loud).

happy birthday & t h a n k  y o u world. i look forward to growing old with you all.

among 2544 images, from 702 photographers & 25 countries – "jack" was selected as one of the 50 winners in Santa Fe Photographic Worksop's first contest : FAMILY. it's among one of my favorite images from this season, so it's nice to have the recognition from the photographic community. check out the other winners by clicking on the image…

hazel

i was so excited to play with hazel in millenium park. in fact, i had met this little one over a year ago, & captured her inquisitiveness & joking manners then. hazel has a rare response to cameras. while most children these days are used to the camera & the word "cheese," hazel enjoys ignoring the camera & remains one of the most independent two year olds i know. i really wanted to make sure that i captured as many of the expressions i've seen hazel dish out…

happy mistakes

found the first roll i shot on my little plastic holga from a year ago. i like when i loose my playful film, and it shows up to remind me of a day playing in the sun. i especially like that i had no idea i was double exposing overlapping frames… the cool summer air didn't seem to faze ms sekai, who was drenched.

Summer is not over! & this family is here to prove it. This is 8am on a Sunday morning – I couldn't have asked for any more fun than this …. seriously. I'm giggling looking at these.

andrew

is just 6 weeks old, and barely sleeps (poor mom & dad). but i had a little trick up my sleeve when i arrived. we hung out on their outside deck with the breeze blowing on a beautiful morning. (check out that head of hair in the wind) within 20 min, andrew was asleep – not for long – but just enough to hope that in the near future, as summer is still here, that deck will come in handy. andrew also appears to dream vividly with hand movements while he is sleeping – perhaps he'll be an air traffic controller, or an orchestra conductor. who knows! when i first visited him at about 3 weeks old, he was showing off by lifting his own head!! i'm sure this makes dad happy – who is a huge sports fan & player. and to top it off – the most hilarious expressions for someone so young. i can't wait to watch this little smarty pants grow up.

flashes of hope

Posted on: August 13th, 2010 by alyssa miserendino No Comments

is a national not for profit that provides free photographic portraits for children with terminal illness and those that have survived cancer. it provides an amazing venue for children to see themselves in another light & to celebrating the here & now.

however, this last shoot i did with flashes was a challenge. i walked away from this shoot feeling as if i didn't provide my absolute best for the families who came by. it was hot, & e v e r y single child i photographed did not want his or her portrait taken – this was a first. somehow i was sent this challenge to realize i am no magic maker. it was the first time i have ever captured those with autism too. all of the sudden the one thing i rely on – communication – on the most basic level, was no longer available. i didn't know how to connect with them … my words meant nothing. the loud noises of the environment around them created a sensory overload in their mind. but somehow, with a lot of patience & finding new ways to communicate, it turned out to be the best rewarding experience yet. once back in the studio the images made me cry while editing them – i had ended up doing a great job in the end. t h a n k  y o u flashes of hope for allowing me to grow and trusting that no matter what, we as photographers will do our best for you.

gabriella

"follow your bliss" coined by Joseph Campbell reminds me of gabriella. it was her 2nd birthday and to celebrate it, her parents played together in their neighborhood park. gabriella is a city gal & is not fascinated with the mariposas or flores (in fact her facial expressions had me chuckling because of her discontent for them), but rather her fascination is with the aves – the birds are her bliss…
